Return Journeys is a series of sixteen collectable artworks designed by Luke McKeown for the back of bus tickets on the Nighttrack, Daytrack and Fasttrack services. By collecting all 16 of the images featured on the bus tickets, passengers have had the chance to win one of 12 original signed prints, a pack of ten Nighttrack Nightsaver tickets or one of 20 pairs of tickets to Warner Village Cinemas.
On launching the project Reading's lead councillor for cultural services, Jon Hartley, said: "Return Journeys is a fabulous example of how art can be incorporated into urban life and influence people's everyday experiences. We hope that people will enjoy Luke McKeown's artworks, which will also appear on a number of poster sites around Reading, and that they will add an extra dimension to their journeys to and from the centre of Reading."
Luke has said of the project: "I was interested in creating a series of micro-artworks which relate to the massiveness of the universe - the planets and stars, black holes, space-time - using simple yet dynamic symbols as a means to trigger the possible associations of bus journeys, of people travelling through space and time from one destination and returning home again. |
